GLITTER

The happy glitter in his hair
Still from the night before
Reminded him she wasn't there
Nor would she be no more.

She'd worn the glitter when they met,
That night when all went well,
Before things got themselves upset,
Before successes fell.

On him a dose she'd lightly sprayed
For just a touch of fun -
Those silly games they'd jointly made
That night when it begun.

But somewhere since it all turned weird;
Of jokes became bereft,
And in the end she disappeared,
And glittered as she left.

And all he's left with presently's
The glitter that she lent,
Which won't wash out with quite such ease
As that with which she went -
The glitter on your pillow stays,
Unmoving for a thousand days,
Reminding what it meant.
