That day we met 'twas springtime;
An April morning fine -
I caught a glance as you walked past
And knew I'd make you mine.
I knew of only one way
To supplement my knowledge;
I followed you as you returned
And turned into your college.
You stopped and checked your mailbox;
Gave me info superficial -
It told me what your surname was
And gave me your initial.
The name list on the wall there -
My most obliging buddy -
Divulged what year you'd started
And the subject that you studied.
And so I turned attention,
As about my love I ponder,
Unto the greatest tool I have;
The internet I wander -
The site of your department
Was really very giving;
It showed me what you looked like
And what you did for a living.
Directory enquiries
Was my next stop, I confess -
They told me what your number was
And gave me your address.
And so I had the details
That could make my life complete;
Before you hung your phone up,
I could hear your voice so sweet.
And so as you'll remember,
O'er to your house I went;
I saw as you collected up
The flowers that I'd sent.
The contents of your dustbin
Were rather worth the looking;
They told me just which brands you use
For toiletries and cooking.
And so I sent you presents
And on every day, a letter.
Your life, I know, is happy
Since I'm here to make it better.
And when I got that mailing
I was happy through and through;
A court injunction it may be,
But I know it's from you.
I know how much you love me
Though you've never told me so -
And though nearby I mustn't be,
I'll never ever go.
