My work covers a broad area of Earth Sciences, but it concentrates on using remote sensing to study how continental regions deform. The aim of my PhD is to investigate the deformation of NE Iran resulting from the collision between Arabia and Eurasia. The active tectonics may be studied by looking at the seismicity, as well as looking at the faults themselves and their associated geomorphology in the field. Combining this with satellite imagery, digital topography and recent developments in remote sensing, e.g. satellite interferometry, we can understand how the tectonics evolve with time down to the level of individual fault systems.
