I passively support
the Cambridge and St. Ives Railway Organisation. It is an organisation
aiming to reinstate a commuter railway between St. Ives (in Cambridgeshire,
not Cornwall) and Cambridge. It opposes the misguided Guided Bus scheme
which Cambridgeshire County Council support. I won't go into all the details
as the arguments are long and complex, but it seems clear to me that using
an existing railway which has only been out of service for 15 years will
be cheaper, quicker to implement and solve the A14 corridor congestion
issues much better than ripping up the track and track bed and installing
a guided bus route. It is the classic case of a pot of money being available
for "inovative solutions" so someone dreamt up the guided bus idea without
even investigating whether good old railway might be better.
