I grew up in Bonn in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. I lived in Bonn until 1987, when I passed my Vordiplom exam in physics at Bonn University. Apart from a semester at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, I studied until 1991 in Kiel where I received my Diplom in geophysics. After a year of military service with the German Navy in Bremerhaven and Flensburg, I moved in 1992 to Palo Alto, California. I was a graduate student at the Geophysics Department in the School of Earth Sciences of Stanford University where I received my Ph.D. in 1997. I have been a research associate at the Bullard Laboratories of the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom) and work now for 3DGeo back in California.
I am a member of AGU, EAGE, PESGB, SEG, and GSA.
